DeKalb Superintendent Updates District 428 Families

District 428 Families,

As we move into week five of our “stay at home” order and remote learning, I hope that this email finds you and your families doing well and that everyone is healthy. I understand that this continues to be hard on all of us, especially given this special weekend where we would normally gather with extended families. However, we are all in this together and we have to remain committed to social distancing as directed by our medical experts. We will get through this, but unfortunately it is going to require us to let go of some special end of year events that we all look forward to. As I shared last week, even if we return to school on May 4th, we will not be able to reschedule all events. We continue to make contingency plans for traditional end-of-year ceremonies. We will keep you informed as information is released to us.

School Calendar Adjustments:

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has allowed for E-Learning Planning Days for teachers given our new educational delivery platform. Because of this, DeKalb 428 will be using April 17th and April 24th as E-Learning Planning Days for teachers. E-Learning instruction will not be in session on these days, these days will be reserved as make up days for students who have work that needs to be completed. Additionally, May 1st will be a Transitional Learning Day for staff. If we are to return to in-person learning on May 4th, staff will need time to prepare for students to return to school. We will update plans as we learn more from Governor Pritzker’s office.

District 428 staff has developed the following resource guide for you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with questions. See the link to the COVID 19 Resource Guide at the bottom of this post.
